Artist Khadija Ingar with a Phulkari Lantern

The traditional Punjabi embroidery art is called 'phulkari'.

The word means growing flowers, or flower work. This embroidery form, true to its name, includes only floral motifs in bright colours.

The phulkari with very intricate floral patterns is called 'bagh', which means garden. It is primarily used on the odhanis and dupattas (i.e. scarves), and it is considered auspicious for brides and for the new born, and is worn on ceremonies.
